The Duck-Rabbit Milk Stout Wins Gold at World Beer Cup

April 10, 2010, Chicago, IL – The World Beer Cup announcedDuck Rabbit  the honorees of their 2010 competition, and, in the sweet stout category, The Duck-Rabbit Milk Stout brought home the gold medal.  This year, 642 breweries from 44 different countries entered a total of 3,330 different unique beers, making this the largest commercial beer competition in history.
The World Beer Cup was developed and first held in 1996 by the Brewers Association in response to the increase in beer styles (both new and traditional) being produced by a growing number of breweries around the world. The competition is held every two years when a panel of highly trained professional judges award gold, silver and bronze medals in each of 91 different beer categories. The mission of the World Beer Cup, as stated on their website, “is to create greater consumer awareness around the world about the quality and diversity displayed by the various beers of the world.”
The Duck-Rabbit Milk Stout is a traditional full-bodied stout brewed with lactose (milk sugar). The subtle sweetness imparted by the lactose balances the sharpness of the heavily roasted grains, which give this beer its black color.  With notes of coffee and chocolate, this delicious beer is worthy of this high praise!
In addition to winning a gold medal at the World Beer Cup, The Duck-Rabbit Brewery also received numerous honors from this year’s United States Beer Tasting Competition (USBTC). The Duck-Rabbit Schwarzbier was named Grand Champion for its style nationally, while the Duck-Rabbit Milk Stout was named Champion in the Stout category for the Mid-Atlantic/Southeast region. Also, in the USBTC’s ‘Best of the south,’ The Duck-Rabbit Barleywine, The Duck Rabbit Marzen and The Duck-Rabbit Milk Stout won in their categories; furthermore, The Duck-Rabbit Brewery garnered the ‘also exceptional’ distinction for their Brown Ale, Porter, Imperial Stout, Baltic Porter and Wee Heavy Ale.
The Duck-Rabbit Craft Brewery is a packaging brewery in Farmville, North Carolina and has been making delicious dark beers since 2004.  Their brews can be found in Georgia, North Carolina, Pennsylvania, South Carolina, Tennessee and Virginia.
