downtown partnership . . .
The Farmville Downtown Partnership is a volunteer, non-profit corporation that was created to help revitalize the downtown area of Farmville, preserve it's historical nature, and to increase the downtown area's economic viability.
The organization was formed on the recommendation of the HyettPalma consulting firm. HyettPalma was contracted by the Town to complete a comprehensive downtown study to determine what needed to be done to help rebuild the area and guarantee its economic viability. The study was designed to show what local residents want in their downtown area in terms of services and retail stores, what they think needs to be done in the area to help it survive, and the best way to achieve the restoration of downtown and turn it into a vital business and retail core once again.
When this report was released, several interested downtown merchants and local government officials got together and decided to form a downtown development group who would help bring the area back to life. A survey was completed by downtown merchants asking them if they would like to be involved with the organization, if they would be willing to work within the group and serve on committees, and if they would be willing to hold officer positions within the organization. With this the Downtown Partnership was born.
Since the partnership was formed, there have been a lot of positive changes in downtown Farmville. Many new businesses have come into the area, buildings have been rehabilitated and preserved, and citizens have begun to take a more active role in helping to revitalize their community and save their downtown.
The Downtown Partnership raises monies for facade grants through their annual Saint Patrick's Day Auction. To learn more about our Facade Grant Program, please visit this link.
