- July 4th Celebration - Thanks for another wonderful July 4th in Farmville. This year's event featured the Tar River Band at the gazebo, Jones Fruit Farm selling ice cream, the American Legion with hot dogs and drinks, the Republican Women of Pitt County with flags and patriotic items and patiotic favors were passed out by Suzanne Yester. The fireworks were spectacular and the Downtown Partnership thanks Zambelli's and Bill (who drove 180 miles just to light the show for us) for a fantastic display, especially the finale. And once again we owe our gratitude to Chamber member Alliance One International for sponsoring the fireworks.
The fireworks would not be possible without our fire department's backup. They sprayed the dried field before the fireworks were set up and were at the ready with three trucks in case of a mishap. Our volunteer fireman are crucial for the safety of the show and have never let us down. A thank you to the Town of Farmville, Recreation Director Jeff Polaski and Town employees Bobby House, Edwardo King and Officers Paul McLawhorn, Jason Spencer and Charles Delph for their time, knowledge and all the efforts they made to help with the event. And, of course, none of this would have been possible without our Downtown Partnership members and their support of Main Street Farmville.

- The Farmville Chamber of Commerce and Downtown Partnership have announced a new addition to their website www.farmvillencchamber.org.  Information about available commercial properties located within the downtown business district can now be found on the Chamber's webpage.  The listings include pictures, a description of the building and contact information.  Previously, this information could not be found in one place. Please click the Available Downtown Properties link on the left side menu.

The Chamber has been given permission by each property owner to list the property.  If you have buildings that you wish to have added please contact the Chamber at 753-4670.

The Chamber has also been actively working on advertising.  Pitt & Greene's Carolina Country magazine will feature the May Museum and Farmville in its April issue.

Working with the Economic Development Council, the Chamber will feature an ad in the April 2010 issue of US Airways magazine.  Ideas have also been submitted for possible editorial space.  The magazine will be featuring Greenville-Pitt County, profiling the people and places, industries and attractions that make it a unique and vibrant place to live, work, and play.   The magazine can be found on each US Airways flight, reaching over 5 million business and leisure travelers.

The spring issue of the Farmville Magazine will also feature an ad by the Chamber.  This publication will be placed in businesses throughout Pitt County and welcome centers across North Carolina.

Pitt Community will produce a Career Focus magazine again this year and will feature and ad for Farmville on the front inside cover.  PCC mails this publication to thousands of homes in Pitt County.

Other activities the Chamber is working on are new brochures and a program to include Farmville in Pitt County's 250th Anniversary Celebration.  A Civil War Trails marker has been approved by the NC Civil War Trails Program to include Farmville in the driving trail of Potter's Raid. For more information about the Civil War Trails program, please visit their website at http://www.civilwartraveler.com/EAST/NC/.

Please check the website often for updates and view the slide shows of events, ribbon cuttings and business after hours.
